Disturbance
“Disturbance” is a self-referential installation whose subject is the optical flow analysis algorithm used in mpeg compression. The detected motion creates fluid-like distortion in the images – rather than a video we actually see a sequence of distorted stills.

Kirstu design plagiarized in Thailand!
Wow. I don’t know what to say. It turns out that you can buy a pirated t-shirt in Thailand that’s a direct ripoff of our Flow Festival poster of 2007 (scroll down a bit to see the original). This is both the funniest and most flattering thing this week by far!
Extend your space
“Extend your space” is a minimal trompe-l’œil, traced with marker from the projected output of a nodebox script. If you type in the text in nodebox and run it, you get an image that can then be projected and adjusted to different spaces. Thus the work in itself contains the complete instructions needed for it’s reproduction. It was featured in the 5th Tallinn Applied Art Triennal, Know How 2009.

Book: Tekstauskirja (1960)
Here’s “Tekstauskirja” (“lettering book”), a Finnish lettering manual by Ahto Numminen and Olof Eriksson. It’s something of a classic in its field, still used as a primer on calligraphy courses and now in its eleventh edition. These photos are of the original 1960 edition.
